A group of individuals suspected of a series of livestock thefts has been detained in the Karaganda region. All detainees have confessed and repented, reports infohub.kz.
According to the media portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the Nura district, criminal police officers detained a group of men suspected of systematic cattle theft from local residents. According to the investigation, starting in March, the suspects regularly stole animals from residents of their district.
Over several months, the suspects committed at least five episodes of cattle rustling. Their loot included 14 cows and 24 sheep. For rural residents, this is not just property but a primary source of income and the result of months of labor.
During a series of operational and investigative measures, criminal police officers of the Nura district traced the suspected criminals. All suspects were detained. They turned out to be residents of one of the villages in the Nura district.
During the investigative actions, the detainees fully confessed and repented. Police have already managed to return part of the stolen livestock to the owners – 7 cows and 3 sheep. The rest of the livestock, as established by the investigation, was sold in the Akmola region and Astana. Measures are currently being taken to locate and return it to the legal owners.
A pre-trial investigation is ongoing. In addition, investigators are checking the detainees for involvement in other similar crimes committed both in the Nura district and in neighboring regions.
