Canadian singer Celine Dion has spoken candidly for the first time about her 17-year struggle with an undiagnosed illness, during which she took dangerous doses of Valium, reports infohub.kz.
The first symptoms of the rare neurological disorder appeared in 2008, during her world tour. However, it took doctors nearly two decades to pinpoint the exact cause of her ailments. Throughout this time, the singer suffered from severe pain, spasms, and vocal issues, unaware of the nature of her condition.
To continue performing, Dion took Valium in doses reaching 90 milligrams per day, which is close to a lethal level. It was only in 2022 that doctors diagnosed her with stiff-person syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease.
Currently, the singer is undergoing an intensive course of rehabilitation and therapy under the supervision of specialists. According to the artist, medical treatments and family support are helping her gradually recover and return to a creative life.
