Chinese automaker Changan has announced a new hybrid version of its popular CS55 Plus crossover. The new model, dubbed CS55 Plus HEV, features a self-charging hybrid system and will go on sale on August 18, according to infohub.kz.
The hybrid powertrain is based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 148 horsepower. The engine works in tandem with a 241-horsepower electric motor and a compact battery with a capacity of 1.7 kilowatt-hours. Thanks to advanced BlueCore technology, the gasoline engine features direct fuel injection at 500 bar and achieves a peak thermal efficiency of 44.28 percent.
According to the company, this powertrain reduces fuel consumption in the urban cycle to three liters per 100 kilometers. The battery does not require external charging; it replenishes its energy during vehicle operation.
The hybrid CS55 Plus differs from the standard version with an updated front bumper featuring a V-shaped grille, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and a blue HEV emblem. The crossover measures 4,550 mm in length, 1,868 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,656 mm.
Prices for the new hybrid version have not been announced yet. For comparison, the gasoline-powered CS55 Plus in China costs between 93,000 and 110,000 yuan, equivalent to approximately 6.5–7.7 million tenge at the current exchange rate.
Earlier it was reported that Changan became the fastest-growing brand in Kazakhstan in the first half of 2026. The best-selling model is the CS55 Plus with a traditional internal combustion engine. At official dealers in Kazakhstan, this crossover is offered in a different body style and starts at 9.3 million tenge.
