Chevrolet Cobalt remains the best-selling passenger car in Kazakhstan. Auto expert Farukhdin Yakubov explained on social media why he considers the sedan one of the most rational options for the money, reports the website infohub.kz.
The main argument is its simple and well-known design. Yakubov specifically noted the 1.5-liter engine, automatic transmission, and chassis. According to him, with timely maintenance, the main components can work for a long time without serious problems.
At the same time, the expert emphasized that the model has certain drawbacks that owners have to address. Overall, he believes, the combination of engine, gearbox, and suspension makes the Cobalt a good choice for daily use.
Another plus is the availability of spare parts and the low cost of body parts. Consumables, parts, or service for a popular model are always easy to find.
Yakubov also believes that the Cobalt holds its value well when resold. However, this point cannot be considered a universal rule: the residual value of a particular car depends on mileage, condition, number of owners, accident history, and maintenance.
Yakubov also stated that the Cobalt's body is fully galvanized and therefore less prone to corrosion. This claim should be taken with caution, as the protective coating does not exclude the appearance of rust if the metal is damaged, after poor accident repairs, or with insufficient care.
In the comments under the video, many praised the Cobalt, but some owners shared their experiences with drawbacks. One wrote: "I've owned it for three years, mileage 200,000 km. On the suspension, I replaced two tie rod ends, the right lower ball joint, and the left stabilizer link. All cheap, very satisfied with the car."
Another owner cited the soft suspension and fuel efficiency as pluses: "The Cobalt is galvanized. Soft suspension, economical, plenty of spare parts. Engine lasts forever, huge trunk. A people's car."
However, one commenter reported issues with the throttle, steering rack, heater, and gearbox, and noted that the doors of his car do not close well. He added: "The Cobalt is the same as Chinese cars. From the showroom, the check engine light blinks, the throttle needs cleaning, the steering rack makes noise, the heater leaks. An acquaintance of mine had the compensators knocking at 60,000 km, and the gearbox sometimes hesitates for up to two seconds. The only pluses are the cast-iron block, chain drive, and galvanized body. In the end, for 7 million you can find a Turkish-assembled Corolla from 2017-2018 with 70-80 thousand km."
Another user called the Cobalt a "workhorse for taxi duty," noting that the model may be sturdy but lacks comfort.
