In the North Kazakhstan region, the chief engineer for technical supervision of a contractor engaged in road construction has been detained on suspicion of taking a bribe. On July 8, 2026, officers of the Department of the National Security Committee for the North Kazakhstan region caught the specialist red-handed. He received 1% of the amount of a signed interim certificate of work completed, reports the website infohub.kz.
As noted in the press service of the national company KazAvtoZhol JSC, the detention was based on a voluntary report from the company itself. In addition, the Kokshetau Transport Prosecutor's Office has registered a pre-trial investigation against officials of the Akmola regional branch of KAZservice LLP. The case was opened based on materials from an internal investigation by KazAvtoZhol JSC and the results of an audit. According to preliminary data, the amount of damage exceeds 24 million tenge.
"These facts were identified as part of systematic work on internal control, audit and anti-corruption compliance. The company continues to cooperate with law enforcement, special and supervisory bodies on the principle of inevitability of liability," KazAvtoZhol noted.
It is reported that since July 2025, after amendments to the law "On Combating Corruption," specialists in technical and author supervision have been equated to persons performing state functions and bear responsibility for corruption offenses on a par with them.
