A five-year-old boy was electrocuted on a playground in Astana on Sunday afternoon while playing in a sandbox. The incident occurred in the courtyard of a residential building where construction was underway. According to eyewitnesses, a dangerous cable was laid directly through the play area, and in one spot the wire was exposed. Residents had repeatedly warned builders about the danger, but the company merely covered the cable with soil. The day before the tragedy, the wire was already sparking, but no one responded. After the shock, the boy suffered burns and was hospitalized, reports infohub.kz.

The Akimat of Astana stated that construction organizations had been repeatedly issued warnings regarding the cable laying after residents' complaints. At the end of July, a walkthrough was conducted with company representatives, who were again instructed to eliminate the violation. However, as events showed, no measures were taken. A criminal case has been opened. Currently, the cable is de-energized and poses no threat.

The Astana Public Health Department confirmed that the child is in the intensive care unit in serious but stable condition. Doctors are providing intensive therapy and all necessary medical assistance.
