In Kazakhstan, 69 minors have drowned since the start of the swimming season. During the summer heat, many children go to rivers and lakes, often with tragic results, reports Orda.kz.
According to the Interior Ministry, accidents most often occur at unapproved beaches where the bottom is unchecked, with possible whirlpools and strong currents. In addition, children die due to lack of proper adult supervision, especially if adults consume alcohol during recreation.
Since the beginning of the year, over 2,700 people have been held accountable for swimming in prohibited areas (Article 364 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan). The Interior Ministry urges Kazakhstani citizens to closely watch children near water bodies and not let them swim alone.
