All quarterfinalists have been decided at the WTA-1000 China Open 2026. With Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina (1) and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (2) having packed away their racquets early in the tournament, the battle for the trophy continues with the world's 5th-, 7th-, 8th- and 9th-ranked players, reports infohub.kz.
The list of Beijing quarterfinalists could have looked even more intriguing had the world's sixth-ranked player, Linda Noskova, not dropped out. The Czech 2026 Wimbledon princess lost to Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova in the round of 16 – 2:6, 2:6.
Earlier, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina packed away their racquets in Beijing. The world No. 1 also announced that she will not play in Wuhan because of an injury; she reached the quarterfinals there last year.
The day before, it became known that the reigning champion, Coco Gauff of the United States, will also skip the WTA-1000 tournament in Wuhan.
– I'm disappointed that I won't be able to play in Wuhan. Especially as the reigning champion. After a long season, my body needs some time to rest and recover. I look forward to returning next year, – Gauff wrote on social media.
At the Beijing Masters, Gauff (4) lost her quarterfinal match to Belgium's Elise Mertens – 3:6, 3:6.
The China Open tennis tournament is being held this year for the 25th time among men (ATP-500) and the 27th time among women (WTA-1000). The total prize pool is $9.4 million.
Over the years, the prestigious hard-court tournament has been won by Michael Chang, Jim Courier, Marat Safin, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Serena Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and other stars.
