Three Chinese models — the Aion UT, Geely E2, and Leapmotor B05 — have been awarded the maximum five stars in crash tests under Euro NCAP's new 2026 protocols. The Leapmotor B05 is known as the Lafa 5 in the Chinese market. Another newcomer, the Cupra Raval, achieved five stars only with an optional safety package, reports infohub.kz.

Euro NCAP noted that Chinese manufacturers are increasingly submitting vehicles for European crash tests: since 2021, the number of Chinese models tested has grown nearly tenfold. Chinese cars now account for 7% of new car sales in the European Union and almost 10% in the UK.

“Today's results clearly show that Chinese automakers continue to work hard to meet the high standards expected by European consumers,” said Euro NCAP program director Aled Williams.

The best overall score for occupant protection was achieved by the Leapmotor B05 with 92%. The model also scored 77% for safety assist and 89% for post-crash safety. In side impact tests, the B05 received maximum points for both the barrier and pole impacts.

The Geely E2 scored 86% for occupant protection and 95% for post-crash safety. Experts particularly noted the presence of physical controls and a child presence detection system in the base trim. However, the autonomous emergency braking system did not always operate consistently.

The Aion UT scored 91% for occupant protection and 88% for post-crash safety. However, experts criticized its heavy reliance on the central touchscreen and the accuracy of speed limit recognition at 68%. Additionally, the model lacks a child presence detection system.

The Cupra Raval with standard equipment received four stars. After installing the optional Safety Pack, the rating increased to five stars. The pack improves the performance of active safety systems at low speeds and when crossing intersections. As a result, the Raval with the additional equipment scored 72% for safety assist, compared to 58% for the standard version.

These results are particularly important for Chinese manufacturers amid their growing presence in Europe. Now the Aion UT, Geely E2, and Leapmotor B05 can boast the highest Euro NCAP rating under the new 2026 protocols.
