A Chinese man, Yan Yanjia, has set a new world record by spinning 33 hula hoops simultaneously while hanging upside down, reports infohub.kz.

The native of Guilin (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) surpassed the previous achievement by 10 hoops. The man started practicing with a hula hoop eight years ago to lose weight on his doctor's advice, according to the Guinness World Records website.

Two friends helped the athlete put 33 hoops over his head down to his hips, after which he kept them spinning in sync for the required time to register the result.

According to the record holder, his path to athletic success began in 2018. Due to obesity, doctors diagnosed him with fatty liver disease and recommended urgent weight loss. Yan bought a two-kilogram hula hoop and, through daily training and diet control, lost weight from 80 to 63 kilograms in a month. Over time, a simple hobby turned into an extreme pastime and preparation for world achievements.

The previous record in this category was 23 hula hoops. Now Yan Yanjia plans a new challenge: spinning hoops while doing pull-ups on a bar. He noted that this trick requires many times more strength and high core stability.
