China's humanoid robot 'Lightning' stunned the world by running the 100-meter dash in 9.32 seconds, faster than Usain Bolt's legendary record. The historic event took place at the World Robot Games in Beijing, reports infohub.kz.
According to The Guardian, at its peak speed, the robot, created by Honor, reached 14.5 meters per second. Before the race, engineers extended the machine's limbs by 10 centimeters, which improved the result.
A year ago, the best robot covered the distance in just 21.5 seconds. But now technology has advanced. Due to the high speed, braking is difficult, so at the finish line, robots crash into soft mats to prevent damage.
The tournament also set a record in the standing high jump. In addition to athletics, machines compete in football, boxing, and table tennis.
This year, the Games brought together more than two thousand androids, 666 teams, and participants from 16 countries.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that China has begun mass production of the Photon Matrix device, which promises to rid a home of mosquitoes using a laser. The first batch of the gadget is planned to be shipped to customers at the end of August.
