In Zharkent, police have solved an unusual theft where the main loot was not money or expensive electronics, but chocolate, reports infohub.kz.

According to the official Instagram page of the Zhetysu Regional Police Department, a representative of a local shopping center reported the systematic disappearance of a particular brand of chocolate. After reviewing security camera footage, security staff identified a man who, over several weeks, regularly visited the store, hid chocolate bars in his bag and pockets, and left without paying.

It turned out that the suspect followed the same pattern each time: he entered the store, made sure no one was watching, stashed the chocolate in his belongings, and walked out. A few minutes later, he would return and repeat the process. On some days, he made five to six such trips.

According to police, over the course of a month, 625 chocolate bars were stolen from the shopping center, with total damages exceeding 530,000 tenge.

As a result of operational measures, officers from the Panfilov District Police Department identified and detained a 41-year-old resident of Zharkent. The man fully confessed to the crime.

A pre-trial investigation is underway, and all circumstances are being established. Police are also checking the suspect for possible involvement in other similar crimes.
