Cilia Flores, the wife of Nicolás Maduro, has asked to be transferred to house arrest, citing serious health problems. Her lawyer, Mark Donnelly, filed the request, according to infohub.kz.
According to the defense, she has been diagnosed with a serious heart condition. Donnelly said his client deserves the chance to await trial under house arrest so she can recover from a recommended cardiac catheterization. More serious cardiac procedures may be needed later, the lawyer noted.
Donnelly stressed that Flores had been healthy before this year's events. She has now been prescribed several medications, including one she must take in the event of a possible heart attack. The lawyer added that his client is still working out the recommended examinations and surgery with her doctors.
The defense also noted that since being taken into custody, Flores has not received her monthly injection to treat mitral valve prolapse.
It is worth recalling that about a week ago, Nicolás Maduro and his wife asked for the drug trafficking charges against them to be dropped. The politician's lawyers demanded that the case be dismissed.
