An unusual multicolored stripe has appeared along Kabanbay Batyr Street at its intersection with Panfilov Street in Almaty, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Telegram channel Kris.p.media, the strange markings with geometric shapes have puzzled Almaty residents.

"Drivers are wondering what it's for and whether they can drive on it or even park on it. On one side, there's a solid line, but on the other, there are no prohibiting signs. It looks unusual," says the description of the video published on the channel.

The city's akimat has explained the purpose of the stripe.

"The colorful markings on the safety island near Panfilov Street were applied to increase the visibility of this area. They attract the attention of drivers and pedestrians, helping them navigate better and be more careful when approaching the roadway. The main goal is to improve safety for all road users. It is important to note that the markings were applied within the boundaries of the existing safety island. The roadway has not been narrowed; its parameters and capacity remain unchanged. One of the key objectives of the project is to prevent vehicles from stopping or parking on the safety island. The bright design visually emphasizes the functional purpose of this zone and encourages compliance with traffic organization requirements," said the Almaty Department of Traffic Organization and Passenger Transport.
