Comfort Hotel Astana, formerly owned by businessman Kairat Boranbayev, earned 16.9 million tenge in profit in 2025, up 26% from the previous year. Revenue at the hotel complex reached 1.25 billion tenge, a 10% increase, infohub.kz reports.
The hotel's main income came from stays by individuals — 446 million tenge, 2.7 times more than a year earlier — and from its restaurant, which brought in 228 million tenge. Income from stays by legal entities, by contrast, halved to 199 million tenge.
The cost of services rose only slightly, by 4.8%, to 914.5 million tenge. The largest expense item was amortization of financial assets at 220.6 million tenge. Administrative expenses did not increase significantly and totaled 231 million tenge.
At the end of 2025, the hotel's assets reached 3.9 billion tenge. Their short-term portion grew mainly on the back of a 55% increase in cash balances, to 649 million tenge. Among long-term assets, the bulk was the hotel building itself and structures, valued at 2.8 billion tenge at the end of the period; their original cost stood at 3.2 billion tenge. The hotel's liabilities total 17.8 million tenge.
In August 2025, the hotel paid its sole shareholder — the Astana Department of Investment and Entrepreneurship Development — 9.4 million tenge in dividends. That amounts to 70% of its 2024 profit.
Until the autumn of 2023, Comfort Hotel Astana belonged to well-known businessman Kairat Boranbayev. In September 2023, Boranbayev was sentenced to six years in prison for embezzling and laundering 14.5 billion tenge. The prison term was soon replaced with restricted freedom, and the businessman handed over his numerous assets to the state, including the hotel. At the time it was transferred to the state, Comfort Hotel Astana was valued at 1.4 billion tenge.
Comfort Hotel Astana was put up for auction twice. In May 2024, following the bidding, the hotel was placed under the trust management of Invesco PowerShares Capital Management for five years with a buyout option. By then the hotel had been valued at 3.9 billion tenge. The Astana akimat remains the hotel's beneficial owner.
In April 2026, Khalel Akimzhanov, head of the Astana Department of Investment and Entrepreneurship Development, said that by the end of this year the manager would be able to buy the hotel, or it would be put up for auction again.
