Czech tennis players Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik have won the mixed doubles title at the US Open, as reported by infohub.kz.
The mixed doubles tournament opened the US Open program, attracting many of the world's top players. In the final, the Czech pair faced Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Italy's Flavio Cobolli. The match ended on a championship tie-break with a score of 6:3, 1:6, 10:6 in favor of the Czechs. The match lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes.
For Muchova and Mensik, this is their first US Open mixed doubles title. The revamped mixed doubles tournament was held for the second time: last year, Italians Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori claimed the title, who also won in the 2024 season.
The prize money was one million dollars (approximately 460 million tenge at the current exchange rate) for the winners. Finalists Bencic and Cobolli will receive half that amount. Semifinalists — Russians Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, as well as Ukrainian Elina Svitolina and Frenchman Gael Monfils — earned $250,000 each.
The singles main draw matches of the US Open start on August 31. Kazakhstan will be represented in the men's draw by Alexander Bublik and Alexander Shevchenko, and in the women's draw by Elena Rybakina and Yulia Putintseva.
