In Almaty, a courier on an electric bicycle nearly caused an accident, reports infohub.kz.
The published video shows the e-bike rider moving along the bike lane, fully entitled to do so. However, when a car began to reverse, the courier decided to go around the vehicle instead of stopping. A collision was avoided, but the dangerous episode did not end there.
Then the courier, presumably working for the Volt service, again crossed paths with the car while it was turning right. He managed to brake and continued on his way.
This incident clearly demonstrates that on the road it is not enough to simply have the right of way or be in a permitted area. It is important to consider the actions of other road users and not try to squeeze through where the situation can change in a second.
Drivers, cyclists, and moped riders should follow traffic rules, keep a safe distance, and not continue a maneuver if there is any doubt about safety. Sometimes a few seconds of waiting are much better than trying to gain a couple of meters and create an emergency situation.
