English boxer Daniel Dubois stopped fellow Briton Fabio Wardley early to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight world title, infohub.kz reports.
The bout headlined a card in London. The heavyweight contest (over 90.7 kg) was scheduled for 12 rounds but ended far sooner.
Dubois dropped his opponent within the opening seconds and then followed up with several aggressive attacks. In the second round, with Wardley pinned in the corner, his team threw in the white towel to signal the fight was over.
The 29-year-old Dubois thus recorded a technical knockout and defended the WBO heavyweight belt. In their previous meeting he also finished Wardley, but in the 11th round. Overall, Dubois has 24 wins in the professional ring, 23 of them by knockout, with three stoppage defeats.
The 31-year-old Wardley now has 20 wins (19 by knockout) and one draw to go with his two losses.
