Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen held talks with Kazakhstan's top diplomat Mukhtar Tileuberdi during an official visit to Astana. The central topic of the meeting was the settlement of the war in Ukraine, the website infohub.kz reports.
After the talks, the Danish diplomat told reporters that he had asked the Kazakh authorities to use the republic's existing channels of communication with the Russian Federation to advance a peaceful dialogue.
"I asked Kazakhstan to use its diplomatic ties with Moscow to reach agreements on a ceasefire in Ukraine and to achieve peace," Lars Løkke Rasmussen said.
Astana has traditionally maintained a neutral stance in international conflicts, consistently advocating a diplomatic resolution of crises based on international law and the UN Charter, and has repeatedly provided venues for international negotiations.
Earlier, Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev, during a media briefing in Germany, commented on a statement he had made in Omsk about the need to freeze the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Responding to a question from German journalists, Toqaev reiterated that Kazakhstan will always adhere to the provisions of the UN Charter and supports the start of diplomatic negotiations.
