A preliminary hearing in the murder case of 21-year-old Nurai Serikbay has been scheduled for July 21, 2026, in Shymkent, according to the website infohub.kz.
The announcement was made by Ayanhan Omarov, the lawyer representing the victim's family. Together with Mukhammedzhan Akhmetov, also a lawyer for the family, they will argue for maximum transparency. During the preliminary hearing, the court will determine the case's readiness for trial, the order of evidence examination, and whether a jury will be involved.
The tragedy occurred on the evening of January 11, 2026, in Shymkent, where the 21-year-old student died from multiple stab wounds. The suspect, 28-year-old Sherkhan Aimakhan, an acquaintance of the victim, fled after the attack but was arrested by police on January 13, about 10 km from Shymkent. During the pre-trial investigation, the suspect was sent for compulsory psychiatric treatment.
Earlier, the criminal case for the brutal murder of Nurai Serikbay was sent to the Shymkent court. The victim's family intends to ensure maximum public access to the hearings.
