An almost new Denza N9 experienced a failure in its rear-wheel steering mechanism. The service center found a temporary solution – they fixed the unit with welding and disabled the steering function, reports infohub.kz.

According to service specialists, the Denza N9 arrived with a serious malfunction of the rear steering axle. One of the rear wheels was turned about 15 degrees, while the other was straight.

Mechanics discovered the problem in the mechanism that drives the rear wheel. They said the shaft began to move along the thread, although in normal condition it should be rigidly fixed. The service suspected a loose thread as a possible cause.

“It should sit rigidly on the shaft and only move when it rotates,” explained one of the specialists.

However, the exact cause of the malfunction was not definitively established. They only assumed a manufacturing defect, since the car was almost new – its mileage was about 500 km.

No separate part for repair was found. They managed to find the motor assembly, but its cost, according to specialists, was about 560,000 tenge excluding additional expenses. The entire unit, as noted in the service, could cost about a million tenge or more.

Manufacturing the necessary part at a turner also took time. Therefore, the masters decided to use a temporary solution.

“We will just weld it, set the wheel to zero so that the person can drive straight. The only thing is that the steering will not work,” the specialists explained.

The mechanism was carefully set to the central position and fixed by welding. The masters noted that the unit is critical and overheating it during welding is dangerous – it can damage the metal and its properties.

After assembly, the car was checked with diagnostics and sent to a stand to verify geometry. Rear steering was disabled through the car's settings so that the mechanism would not try to work.

Initially, after the repair, an error related to stabilization and the rear steering axle appeared. However, the specialists then managed to keep stabilization working while disabling the steering function.

“It will work perfectly without this function,” the service noted.

After adjustment, there were no errors on the dashboard, and the car moved normally. However, the masters emphasized that the repair is temporary and the owner should still replace the damaged mechanism.

The masters themselves call the solution “the most makeshift repair” they have had to do, but in this situation there was no other quick option, according to the specialists.

“Our makeshift repair went well. No errors, the car drives,” the service concluded.
