Kazakh triathlete Diana Yerzhanova placed 17th in the women's individual competition at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, infohub.kz reports.
Yerzhanova completed the course in 1 hour 4 minutes 13 seconds, finishing 6 minutes 36 seconds behind the winner.
Lin Xinyu of China took gold in 57 minutes 37 seconds. Her compatriot Huang Anqi was second in 57:58, and Japan's Manami Hayashi claimed bronze in 58:36.

The women's individual triathlon was held in Gamagori. Athletes had to cover a 750 m swim, about 20 km on the bike and a 5 km run. A total of 29 competitors were entered.
Earlier, in the men's triathlon, Arlan Zhanabay gave Kazakhstan its first medal of the 2026 Asian Games. Fellow Kazakh Ayan Beisenbayev finished ninth.
Later, cyclist Rinata Sultanova won Kazakhstan's first gold of the Games, taking the individual time trial in 36 minutes 23.72 seconds.
The XX Summer Asian Games in Japan officially opened yesterday, September 19. The multi-sport event, featuring athletes from 45 countries, will award 460 sets of medals: 217 in men's events, 204 in women's and 39 in mixed events. Competition will be held across 68 disciplines in 41 sports. Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games will include 559 athletes.
