First Vice Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, Rostislav Konyashkin, has commented on the incident involving access to another person's personal account on the eGov portal, as reported by infohub.kz.
In April, the ministry announced an update of the eGov portal to version 3.0. In early August, a Kazakh citizen reported that while trying to log into his personal account, he unexpectedly found himself in another person's account. Following this, JSC "National Information Technologies" (NIT) announced the start of a technical check, and a few days later, the interface of the e-government portal changed.
"This is in no way connected with the launch of the new eGov portal. We have been developing eGov 3.0 for the past several years, starting this work back in 2021, so these are absolutely unrelated initiatives," Konyashkin said in response to a question about a possible link between the update and the incident.
According to the Vice Minister, eGov 3.0 was launched last Saturday, and the new version of the portal is performing well on all parameters. The ministry is investigating the situation with the foreign personal account together with the Information Security Committee.
"We are currently conducting the necessary investigations into this incident together with the Information Security Committee. We will report in more detail later," Konyashkin said.
He added that on the new portal, all possible scenarios in which one user could gain access to another's account have already been checked - on the updated version of eGov, such a situation is technically impossible. The ministry plans to disclose the full results of the investigation within the next two weeks.
