Two-year-old Sasha from Bisert was helping his father screw down floorboards in their new home when he stumbled, fell — and a screw ended up in his eye. Russian doctors managed to save the child's vision, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Ministry of Health of Sverdlovsk Oblast, the boy wanted to help his father during the renovation. While playing near his dad, the child stumbled and fell, after which the screw penetrated his eye.

The parents took their son to Bisert District Hospital. There, the boy underwent an X-ray. It turned out that the foreign object had penetrated deep under the lower wall of the eye socket and entered the maxillary sinus.

Doctors contacted colleagues at Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 9 in Yekaterinburg, where the boy was urgently taken along with his mother. There, specialists from the anesthesiology and intensive care, ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery, and traumatology departments joined the operation.

According to maxillofacial surgeon Sergey Pimenov, the screw did not affect vital structures.

After the operation, doctors monitored Sasha's condition for several days. The intervention was successful: doctors managed to preserve the child's vision.

Medics reminded that tools must be stored in places inaccessible to children. It is also important not to allow young children to engage in dangerous activities.
