A court in Kaskelen has started hearing the case of a dog attack on a child that occurred last year. The defendant is the owner of the dogs, reports infohub.kz.
The incident took place in June 2025 in the village of Zhalpaksay, where a pit bull and two Rottweilers ran onto a football pitch and attacked a schoolboy. As a result, the 66-year-old owner of a kennel is now on trial. He immediately requested that his face not be shown and his name not be disclosed.
According to the investigation, the owner failed to ensure proper fencing of the territory, which led to the tragedy. The enraged dogs broke free and attacked 11-year-old Maxim. The boy suffered multiple wounds to his head, face, and body. He was saved by a passerby who killed two of the dogs.
"Knowing full well that the dogs of large breeds he kept had increased physical strength, aggressive instincts, and could pose a danger to those around them, especially minors, he did not provide proper fencing for the area where they were kept, nor did he organize constant control over the animals," prosecutor Zharkyn Kaptagaev said in court.
The dog owner does not admit guilt. He claims that the children teased the dogs, and that it was puppies that attacked the child. The mother of the victim says that after the horrific attack, Maxim no longer goes outside. He is ashamed of his scars. He now needs another plastic surgery.
"This is a three-stage operation: on the ear, on the face, and on other parts of the body, including the thigh. The lawsuit was filed to recover material damages of about 5 million, that is, 4.5 million, and we stated moral damages at 10 million," said lawyer Arman Sharipov.
The suspect is currently under a written undertaking not to leave the place. He is being tried under the article "Causing grievous bodily harm through negligence." He faces a large fine or up to one year in prison.
Recall that on June 30 of last year, in the village of Zhalpaksay, Almaty region, dogs attacked a 10-year-old boy who was playing with other children on a football field. As a result, the child ended up in intensive care. The prosecutor's office then reported the initiation of a criminal case regarding the dog attack on the child. The supervisory authority assured that the guilty parties would be brought to justice to the fullest extent of the law.
Meanwhile, the mother of the injured child and the man who saved the boy shared details of the incident. According to the mother, the dogs tore off the child's ear. At the same time, the police responded to rumors that the man who saved the child would be held accountable. The department stated that his actions do not violate current legislation.
Later, a video from surveillance cameras appeared online, provided by the owner of the dogs that mauled the child. He claimed that the children themselves approached the animals.
