At the start of the working week, the weighted average dollar exchange rate on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) fell by 2 tenge, continuing the correction after last week's growth. The American currency, which reached 464.77 tenge on Friday, is now trading at 462.31 tenge, according to infohub.kz.
The euro also weakened, and more significantly — by almost 5 tenge in a day. Its weighted average value in today's trading was 536.25 tenge.
In exchange offices of major Kazakh cities, cash dollars and euros are bought and sold at the following rates (data from Kurs.kz as of 15:30):
In Astana, dollars are bought at 459 tenge and sold from 466 to 467 tenge. In Almaty, buying ranges from 457 to 462.8 tenge, selling from 463 to 465 tenge. In Shymkent, buying is from 461.5 to 462 tenge, selling from 463.5 to 464 tenge.
The euro in the capital is bought at 532 tenge and sold at 542 tenge. In Almaty, buying is from 529 to 537 tenge, selling from 537.5 to 542 tenge. In Shymkent, buying is from 535 to 537 tenge, selling from 538 to 543 tenge.
Experts attribute the decline to a number of factors, including the dynamics of world oil prices and the situation on external markets. Analysts do not rule out further fluctuations depending on the macroeconomic environment.
