The weighted average dollar exchange rate on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) surged by nearly 10 tenge in a single day on July 24, reaching 476.07 tenge, marking a sharp strengthening of the US currency. Compared to the previous trading session on July 23, when the rate stood at 466.22 tenge, the national currency weakened by 9.85 tenge, according to infohub.kz.
Over the week, the tenge also weakened against the dollar. On Monday, July 20, the weighted average rate was 470.28 tenge, rising to 476.07 tenge by Friday. Thus, the US currency strengthened by 5.79 tenge over the week.
According to KASE data, during trading on July 24, the low for the dollar was 470.46 tenge, the high reached 479.50 tenge, and the closing rate settled at 474 tenge. Trading volume in the US currency exceeded $491.6 million, with a total of 1,349 transactions.
On the cash market, according to kurs.kz, exchange offices in Astana sold the dollar at a maximum of 478 tenge, while in Almaty it was 476.5 tenge. The official exchange rate of the National Bank as of July 24 is 472.34 tenge per dollar. For the weekend – July 25, 26, and 27 – the official rate is set at 470.28 tenge per dollar.
