Kazakhstan's national currency continues to strengthen: on September 16, 2026, the US dollar fell below 440 tenge at a number of exchange offices. The news is reported by infohub.kz.
The US currency is losing value both on the exchange and at exchange offices. Following trading on September 14, the US dollar dropped below 450 tenge for the first time, and by September 16 the weighted average rate on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) had shed nearly 3 more tenge, reaching 444.88 tenge.
At some exchange offices across the country, the buying rate for the public had fallen below 440 tenge by 15:30, according to the Kurs.kz portal. The following cash US dollar rates were set in the major cities:
Astana: buying — 443 tenge, selling — 450 tenge;
Almaty: buying — 439 to 445.9 tenge, selling — 446 to 447 tenge;
Shymkent: buying — 444 to 444.5 tenge, selling — 446 to 447.5 tenge.
At the same time, the euro also fell by almost 2.39 tenge. Its weighted average rate stood at 513.82 tenge as of 15:30. The country's exchange offices set the following buying and selling rates for cash euros:
Astana: buying — 511 tenge, selling — 521 tenge;
Almaty: buying — 508 to 514 tenge, selling — 514.8 to 525 tenge;
Shymkent: buying — 510 to 516 tenge, selling — 517 to 520 tenge.
