Near Almaty, an employee of the branch of the "Government for Citizens" state corporation, driving a company car, struck and killed a 77-year-old woman and fled the scene. The tragedy occurred on August 11 on the Almaty – Shelek – Khorgos – Baiset highway, reports infohub.kz.
The incident gained wide publicity after a post on social media. The author of the post, citing a subscriber, claimed that the accident happened after working hours and that the company car was hidden for several days. Additionally, the post alleged that the branch management failed to promptly report the incident to the central office.
The National Company "Government for Citizens" confirmed that the accident involved an employee of the Almaty region branch in a company car. Upon receiving the information, they conducted an internal investigation.
"After receiving information about the incident, the State Corporation, within its competence, conducted an internal investigation, during which an assessment was made of the actions of officials, the level of internal control, and the organization of the operation of company vehicles," the "Government for Citizens" commented.
As a result of the review, the deputy director of the branch for general affairs received a disciplinary sanction. The reasons cited were inadequate control over the use of company vehicles, as well as failure to ensure the completeness and objectivity of official information. The branch director was also brought to disciplinary responsibility for improper performance of duties regarding overall management and control, organization of the internal control system, and ensuring the preservation and intended use of property.
However, the claim from social media that the car was deliberately hidden for three days is not directly confirmed in the official response.
The police of the Almaty region provided details of the accident itself.
"According to preliminary data, at about 20:00 on August 11, on the Almaty – Shelek – Khorgos – Baiset highway, a Kia Sorento struck a 77-year-old woman. The woman was crossing the road in an unspecified place. She died from her injuries," the police reported.
It was also established that after the accident, the driver left the scene. Later, police identified him, detained him, and took him into custody. He is 26 years old.
Currently, investigative actions are ongoing regarding the fatal accident. Police are establishing the circumstances and causes of the incident.
The "Government for Citizens" emphasized that the issue of the driver's legal responsibility is within the competence of law enforcement and judicial authorities. The state corporation also expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
