In the East Kazakhstan Region, visitors to a penal enforcement facility attempted to deliver a banned substance to their friend, a murder suspect, according to infohub.kz.

As reported by NUR.KZ, citing the regional Department of Penal Enforcement System (DUIS), the man is being held in custody as part of a criminal case under Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Murder."

His friends arrived at the pretrial detention center to support their comrade. However, during an inspection, officers discovered a hidden plant-based substance in his shoes.

The hiding place was carefully concealed under the insole of the shoe. The banned substance was seized and sent for examination to determine its type and weight.

"The visitors came to meet with the intention of supporting their acquaintance, but the attempt to bring in a banned substance has now put them in the crosshairs of law enforcement. All discovered substances are seized and handed over for further verification in accordance with the procedure established by law," said Saltanat Ozhikanova, official spokesperson for the DUIS in the East Kazakhstan Region.

In this regard, the materials have been forwarded to the competent authorities for a procedural decision.
