In the resort area of Burabay, police officers stopped a driver of a sightseeing electric bus who was transporting passengers while intoxicated, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred during patrol on Kenesary Street. Law enforcement noticed a vehicle with non-functioning rear taillights. There were five passengers inside, coming from one of the local holiday homes.
When talking to the driver, officers smelled alcohol and suggested a medical examination. The man initially refused to give his details but later agreed to the procedure.
The test results confirmed moderate alcohol intoxication. Additionally, it was found that he had previously been deprived of his driver's license.
The detainee explained that he was undergoing an internship at one of the recreation areas and decided to give his acquaintances a ride around the resort area.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched. Measures provided by law are being applied to the man.
Police urge entrepreneurs, especially in tourism and recreation, to thoroughly check employees' documents before hiring. It is recommended to pay attention to the validity of driver's licenses and the absence of restrictions preventing them from driving.
Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of 2026, about a thousand drivers have been brought to responsibility in Astana for driving under the influence. Another 69 people became subjects of criminal cases for driving after license revocation.
