Migration service officers in the East Kazakhstan Region have held 38 people accountable for dual citizenship, and seized the Kazakh passport of a 21-year-old resident of the Altai district after he acquired citizenship of another country, reports infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the regional police department, the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan does not permit dual citizenship. Nevertheless, migration service officers in the East Kazakhstan Region continue to identify individuals who, after acquiring citizenship of another state, fail to report it and continue to use their documents.
Since the beginning of the year, the loss of Kazakh citizenship has been registered for more than 620 individuals. Thirty-eight people have been held administratively liable for violating citizenship legislation requirements.
"The majority of the identified cases involve individuals who have acquired citizenship of neighboring states," said Rinat Shkibaev, head of the migration service department of the East Kazakhstan Region police department.
One such case was identified in a 21-year-old resident of the Altai district. He acquired citizenship of another state but failed to report it to the competent authorities in a timely manner. During the inspection, his documents were seized and the loss of citizenship was registered.
