A passenger plane flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv has transmitted a possible hijack signal. The information is currently being verified, according to infohub.kz.
According to The Times of Israel, the aircraft sent an emergency signal while turning over Saudi Arabian territory. Flight-tracking data shows the Fly Dubai plane initially transmitted emergency code 7700, indicating a general emergency. Shortly afterward, it sent code 7500, which signifies a hijacking or unlawful interference.
Citing security service sources, Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled toward the aircraft. Israeli media report that the prime minister and the defense minister are holding emergency consultations.
According to SHOT, the possible hijack signal came from a Boeing 737 passenger plane. Preliminary reports say 180 people are on board, including 150 Israelis. Baza reports that the aircraft has stopped transmitting the emergency signal and is no longer in contact.
RBC, citing Ynet, reports that there may be 174 passengers on board, including 27 children. A security services representative clarified that there is still no reliable information about a hijacking.
