The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (DUMK) has confirmed reports that a teacher beat students at a mosque in the Almaty Region, infohub.kz reports.
The Telegram channel Kozachkov offside published a video that was reportedly filmed in the Karasai district of the Almaty Region. The footage shows an adult man shouting at boys in a classroom and even hitting some of them.
"The description says the teenagers are being beaten, allegedly at an educational institution attached to a local mosque. Where is the akimat looking?" the post reads.
The press service of the DUMK's Almaty Region representative office responded to the publication. It said the video was filmed during the Imany Zhaz summer religious literacy courses held in early June 2026 at the Turkistan-1 mosque in the Karasai district.
"After the incident, the mosque teacher, D.N., while calling on the children to observe discipline, gave in to his emotions and committed actions that do not conform to the norms of pedagogical ethics and the requirements for teaching activity. After information about the incident became known, a special meeting was held at which the circumstances of what happened were thoroughly reviewed. D.N. admitted his mistake, expressed regret and apologized to the parents," the statement says.
The DUMK claims that written statements and video recordings were received from the parents confirming that they had no claims or complaints regarding the matter. The teacher himself was relieved of his position as a mosque teacher.
The NUR.KZ editorial team also sent a request to the Almaty Region Police Department.
