Starting August 25, Kazakhstan has enforced new requirements for e-scooter users, banning their movement on sidewalks, reports infohub.kz.
Recall that since July 1, the country had already introduced rules concerning age, driver's license, and insurance for e-scooter owners. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced additional restrictions that took effect on August 25.
Previously, riding on sidewalks was allowed at speeds up to 6 km/h, but now e-scooters can only be ridden on bicycle lanes or paths, or, in their absence, on the right edge of the roadway or the shoulder.
Ahead of the new rules coming into force, the Almaty Police Department reminded that only persons over 18 years old with a driver's license of any category and a protective helmet can ride on the roadway.
Additionally, reflective elements must be used in the dark. Carrying passengers or cargo is prohibited, and riders must dismount when crossing pedestrian crossings.
