A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck Colombia, causing injuries and severe damage to buildings, according to infohub.kz.
The tremors were recorded on the morning of August 10, 2026, in the province of Chocó. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was near the city of Quibdó. Initially, the magnitude was estimated at 6.8, but later it was upgraded to 7.4.
The governor of the Chocó department, Nubia Carolina Córdoba-Curí, reported on social media platform X: "There are injured people and serious damage to buildings in Quibdó." She also noted that damage assessment is already underway.
Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management confirmed that the earthquake caused injuries and significant damage. Videos posted on social media show damaged buildings and roads.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre also reported the earthquake, specifying its magnitude. Rescue services continue to monitor the situation.
