A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck southeastern Turkey on the morning of July 18, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, according to the website infohub.kz.
Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the quake occurred at 06:20 local time in the Battalgazi district of Malatya province.
Tremors were also felt in the neighboring provinces of Elazig, Adiyaman, Tunceli, and Sanliurfa.
“No adverse effects have been reported following the magnitude 5.0 earthquake in the Battalgazi district of Malatya province. Our teams are continuing their work on the ground,” AFAD said in a statement.
Turkey lies in a seismically active zone, crisscrossed by several major fault lines, leading to frequent earthquakes, including devastating ones.
Earlier reports noted that after the 2023 earthquake in Turkey, which killed tens of thousands, Kazakhs have become increasingly reluctant to purchase property in the country.
