The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda has surpassed 1,000, according to infohub.kz.
As of July 21, the World Health Organization reported 1,001 fatalities — 999 in the DRC and two in Uganda. The number of confirmed cases stands at 2,494.
The outbreak began on May 15 in the Ituri province on the border with Uganda and South Sudan. By May 17, the WHO had declared a public health emergency. There are no approved treatments or vaccines for the circulating Bundibugyo strain. Patients receive palliative care, including isolation, fluid replacement, and pain management.
