The number of people infected with Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo has exceeded 3,200, and the current outbreak could become the second largest in history, reports infohub.kz.
In the past week, another 856 cases were confirmed in the country, according to Bloomberg, as cited by Izvestia. The total number of infections has now surpassed 3,200, the National Institute of Public Health said.
Over the past two weeks, the death toll from Ebola has nearly doubled to 1,405.
The current outbreak is progressing much faster than the previous one. The last major outbreak in the DRC reached 2,687 confirmed cases about a year after it began; this time, that figure was surpassed in less than 10 weeks after the outbreak was officially declared.
