Kazakh judoka Eldos Smetov, who won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games, has decided to compete at the next Olympics, reports infohub.kz.

According to the publication, Smetov has decided to take part in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

"There is a chance to go to a fourth Olympics. To make the most of this opportunity, I have decided to continue my career in big-time sport. Because Kazakhs have a proverb: 'Dig where you found gold.' In my life, the place where I found gold is sport, namely judo. (...) I must take that gold which belongs to me, which I need. Because I am giving for it things more valuable than gold itself. It is my health," the Olympic champion said in an interview with the YouTube channel Aqyrys Seitqazy.

Recall that Eldos Smetov became the most decorated Olympian in Kazakhstan's history, having won a full set of medals: silver at Rio 2016, bronze at Tokyo 2020, and gold at Paris 2024.
