Kazakhstan's top women's singles player Elena Rybakina continues her winning run at the 2026 US Open, reports infohub.kz.
In the fourth-round match, the world No. 2 faced Japan's Naomi Osaka, a former world No. 1 and two-time US Open champion. Osaka entered the tournament ranked 13th in the WTA standings.
The match lasted just two sets and ended in a convincing victory for Rybakina, 6:1, 6:4. The players spent 1 hour 6 minutes on court.
During the match, the Kazakhstani player hit seven aces, committed one double fault, and converted three of eight break points, never dropping her own serve.
This is Rybakina's first career quarterfinal appearance at the US Open. She has now reached this stage at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
In the next match, the Kazakhstani player will face China's Zheng Qinwen. The Olympic champion from Paris 2024 eliminated Poland's Iga Swiatek in the fourth round.
If she beats Zheng, Rybakina will guarantee herself the world No. 1 ranking regardless of other competitors' results.
