Kazakhstan's top women's singles player Elena Rybakina began her campaign at the 2026 US Open with a confident victory, according to infohub.kz.
The final Grand Slam of the season is being played on hard courts in New York. Rybakina, ranked second in the world, faced American Thea Frodin in the first round. The American, ranked 585th, received a wild card from the organizers.
The start of the match was delayed by nearly four hours due to rain. In the end, the match lasted just two sets and ended 6:3, 6:2 in Rybakina's favor.
The players spent 1 hour and 14 minutes on court. During that time, the Kazakhstani hit six aces, made three double faults, and converted three of six break points, never dropping her own serve.
In the second round of the US Open, Rybakina will face the winner of the match between Czech Daria Vidmanova and Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
