Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina, who won the US Open, posted photos from the tournament on Instagram and shared her emotions about the victory, infohub.kz reports.
"I'm falling more and more in love with New York. Thank you all for the support! This is a moment I will never forget," the athlete wrote.
Recall that the representative of Kazakhstan defeated Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the final and became US Open champion for the first time. Previously at the American Grand Slam tournament, Rybakina had never advanced past the fourth round.
Rybakina's trophy was presented by Maria Sharapova — former world No. 1, champion of all Grand Slam tournaments, member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The champion thanked her team, family and friends for their support. She also addressed Sabalenka, who stood nearby and could not hold back tears when she spoke.
Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev congratulated Elena Rybakina, saying that all of Kazakhstan is proud of her achievements.
Later, Rybakina said she plans to come to Kazakhstan and share the victory with her compatriots.
