The production company has unveiled a teaser lasting nearly four hours, exploring the billionaire's personality and activities. Gibney began work on the project in early 2023, aiming to understand the influence Musk wields on the global economy, politics, and modern technology. Musk himself publicly criticized the idea of the film and declined to participate, but the filmmakers utilized numerous archival interviews and recordings.
The film traces Musk's journey from running Tesla and SpaceX to acquiring Twitter and venturing into artificial intelligence. It features revelations from those close to him, including his father, Errol Musk, as well as experts and commentators who offer conflicting assessments of his management style and lifestyle. Gibney describes Musk as a unique investor capable of attracting enormous sums for grand promises.
The world premiere is set for the Venice Film Festival, followed by a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film will hit U.S. theaters on October 16, 2026, and will later be available on HBO Max.
