Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has put forward a new ambitious infrastructure proposal: his firm The Boring Company has unveiled a concept for an underground Hyperloop line that would connect Austin and San Antonio in Texas, according to infohub.kz.
According to TechCrunch, the project involves a high-speed tunnel linking the two major cities. The distance between them is about 130 kilometers.
Per the company's presentation, the project is an underground tunnel through which passenger and transport pods could travel at high speeds under partial vacuum conditions.
The Boring Company claims that the project would cut travel time between Austin and San Antonio to just minutes, significantly easing congestion on surface highways and improving transportation connectivity in the region.
Elon Musk first announced the idea of high-speed vacuum trains, known as Hyperloop, back in 2013. Since then, the concept has been discussed for various routes in the United States, but so far the company has focused on building underground Loop tunnels for Tesla electric vehicles, such as the operational complex in Las Vegas.
The proposed Texas project is in the early stages of discussion and will require coordination with local authorities, environmental impact assessments, and resolution of funding issues.
