British musician Elton John has said that giving up alcohol and other addictions was his greatest life achievement, and that 36 years of sobriety have noticeably improved his life, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the 79-year-old performer, his destructive habits nearly cost him everything he had. He managed to overcome his addictions in 1990, and the singer himself considers it one of the greatest accomplishments of his life.

Today the musician continues to take pleasure in his craft, keeps in touch with young performers and gives the occasional one-off concert — even though large-scale world tours are a thing of the past.

The artist has also launched his own line of non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Elton John explained that he was looking for a drink he could freely serve to guests at home celebrations and dinners, since he himself does not drink alcohol.

The singer added that after 50 years of touring, he prefers to spend time at home with those close to him. He enjoys elegant table settings and loves hosting guests, who often include famous athletes and fellow performers.
