Reconstruction has begun on an emergency bridge in the village of Turgen, Almaty region, which was destroyed when the river overflowed its banks after heavy rains several weeks ago. The work is expected to be completed within three months, reports infohub.kz.
The bridge was declared unsafe as early as 2024. Today, Almaty region governor Marat Sultanqaziyev visited the site to inspect progress. Currently, four pieces of equipment and more than ten workers are engaged in the project. Construction began a week ago; dismantling has been completed and preparations for drilling are underway. According to the contractor, the bridge is scheduled to be fully operational by November.
"This bridge is important for both residents and tourists," the region's head emphasized. "Therefore, special attention must be paid to the quality of work and compliance with construction deadlines. All technical requirements must be strictly observed at every stage of the project."
Earlier it was reported that mudflows from the Turgen River flooded the road to the Asy plateau in the Enbekshikazakh district of Almaty region. Rescuers evacuated 42 people, including three children, from the Turgen Gorge.
