Preparations for the heating season in the Mangystau region are under close scrutiny by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy. Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov personally inspected the repair campaign at the Mangystau Atomic Energy Combine (MAEK) and demanded that all work be completed on schedule, according to infohub.kz.
According to the ministry, a large-scale repair campaign is underway at MAEK facilities to prepare the energy complex for the upcoming autumn-winter period. The focus is on meeting approved schedules, upgrading equipment, and improving the reliability of power supply in the Mangystau region.
One of the key sites is the MAEK thermal power plant, where work is underway on Unit 1. Specialists are carrying out a set of technical measures to enhance equipment reliability and ensure stable operation during peak loads. The bulk of repair work on this unit is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Concurrently, repairs on primary power equipment continue at other MAEK facilities. For some units, schedules have been adjusted to accommodate additional measures aimed at reducing the risk of emergencies during winter.
During the inspection, the minister ordered strict adherence to repair deadlines and no deviations from the schedule. "The key issue now is completing the repair campaign on time. We must not allow any deviations from the equipment preparation schedule for the autumn-winter period. All necessary decisions must be made promptly, and work progress is under constant supervision by the ministry and the regional administration," Akkenzhenov said.
At the same time, a project to improve regional power supply reliability is ongoing. At the thermal power plant, preparations are underway to replace the AT-1 autotransformer. Delivery of the new equipment is expected in August 2026, with installation starting in September.
Another priority is ensuring the stable operation of the cooling system. Work is underway to restore the capacity of supply channels that deliver process water to MAEK equipment.
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that all activities are under constant oversight by the ministry, plant management, and regional authorities. Timely completion of the repair campaign and modernization of key facilities should ensure stable operation of the Mangystau energy complex during the autumn-winter peak load period and improve the reliability of power supply to consumers.
