Initially, the technology is planned for short-haul routes between neighboring cities and regional airports, where flight distances do not exceed a few hundred kilometers. Potential routes include London-Dublin, Athens-Santorini, Barcelona-Ibiza, Nice-Corsica, and Rome-Sardinia.
The main advantages of electric aircraft will be zero direct carbon dioxide emissions, reduced noise levels near airports, and lower engine maintenance costs.
The main challenges for a large-scale launch remain the limited capacity of modern batteries and the need for a massive infrastructure upgrade. Airports will need to install powerful charging stations and ensure access to renewable energy sources to quickly prepare planes for subsequent departures.
