A resident of the Aktobe region has been sentenced for promising to secure an acquittal for the former akim of Shalkar for 8 million tenge, reports infohub.kz.
According to the publication "Diapazon", the former akim of Shalkar, who had been previously sentenced to 4 years of restriction of liberty, approached the police. He stated that he disagreed with the verdict and was looking for people who could help. A relative recommended a female lawyer, Kalamkas S., who could provide legal assistance. Together with his father, he visited her at home, where she promised to secure an acquittal and asked for 8 million tenge for her services. He paid her half of the amount, and a week later she informed him that the matter was being resolved and that he would need to pay the remaining sum once a positive decision was reached. However, the issue was not resolved, and the man was not acquitted.
As noted in the publication, the former akim did not sign a contract with her and transferred the money without a receipt, while she allegedly claimed that the 4 million tenge was a loan. Additionally, her criminal case included episodes of apartment fraud, but in those instances she worked with an accomplice.
In the end, the case concluded with a guilty verdict. 54-year-old Kalamkas S. was sentenced to 6 years in prison for fraud, and she was taken into custody immediately after the verdict was announced. Her accomplice, Akbota T., also received a 6-year prison sentence, but it was deferred for three years because she has a small child. The court ordered the convicts to compensate the victims for the damages.
